The Ultimate 3D Scanning Platform
UK Patent Application No. 1517457.6 -
US Patent Application No. 14/782,066
Zaybu 3D Scanning is a mechanical design providing a platform for the best 3D scanning process. It is designed for one or more cabled cameras to be mounted on an inner frame to be rotated around a subject.
The design enables fast, smooth rotation providing the perfect mechanism for 3D scanning.
They key to the success of the design is the 'through cable hub'. This allows camera cables to pass through a rotating spindle and hub and on to a host computer. This allows multiple cameras with multiple cables to pass through the same hub without the need for a slip ring or other such limiting arrangement.
The spindle is held within two bearings which are in turn held within the hub. The spindle is free to rotate smoothly. Attached to the bottom of the spindle is the arm, a hollow tube allowing the camera cable to pass through.
At the end of the arm there is the 3D camera (not shown). The hub is suspended by 3 supporting legs (only 1 shown). The camera cable is routed out the top of the spindle and through the supporting leg and onwards
to a pc (not shown)
Advantages of Zaybu 3D Scanning
Fast, smooth & continuous. Fast, smooth, continuous rotation of cameras for many rotations in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions.
Cabled 3D Camera support. Designed specifically for hardwired, cabled 3D cameras to provide best performance. There is no restrictive slip ring arrangement which would prohibitively impact on the number of cameras and the data transfer requirements.
Furture proof. A future proof, evolving platform. With no reliance on proprietary hardware or specification the design will accommodate future developments in 3D scanning camera technology.
Scalability. The design can be scaled from desktop type applications to full room or outdoor scanning of enormous subjects.
Flexibility. Configure many cameras in various positions and orientations.
Portable. The brilliantly simple, component based design allows the 3D scanning station to be assembled and disassembled easily.
Lightweight. There is no need for heavy load bearing structures to support the subject being scanned. This allows the manufacture of the lightest platform possible.
